Cataclysm

#1 Post by Deathviper » Tue Mar 30, 2010 1:24 pm

Stolen from MMO-Champion
Cataclysm Testing Will Start in April
Many people wonder when will the beta of Cataclysm will start, it's time to (try to) answer that question!

As far as I know, the Beta is supposed to start in April. At this point it's not very clear if there will be a Friends & Family Alpha, if there is one it hasn't been widely advertised internally.

This is probably why Blizzard decided to spoil the Cataclysm Prologue in 3.9 a few weeks ago and waaaay before it's deployed on live servers. They're not huge fans of spoilers and the only reason to do it is to make sure people know what's going on when they eventually play on Beta servers.

From a technical point of view, I guess it also explains why most of the assets for both Patch 3.3.5 and Patch 3.9 have been deployed with Patch 3.3. It's probably much easier to maintain a Beta and a Live build at the same time when you don't have to deploy tons of files just because you had to add something on live servers.

Of course, this is a pretty risky news because Beta tests can be postponed if something funny happens but as far as I'm concerned, it should definitely happen in April. If the beta lasts as long as WotLK's you can expect a release of the expansion in September/October, most likely before the Blizzcon.

And before someone smart posts in comments, I do realize it's not hard to predict that. We all know that Cataclysm will be released in 2010, we all know how much time a beta test takes and we all know the beta will start in April/May/June. But I'll just pretend it was an April's Fool joke if I'm wrong, you can do that in May.

My educated guess says Cataclysm will be released at Blizz Con. Sorry not released - unleashed! I CAN'T FUCKING WAIT!

(Sod's law says I'll prolly find a new job just before the unleashing though :cry: )

Is it a Tank? Is it a Healer? Is it a DPSer? All of the above! It's FIENDISH!

My educated guess tells me there is not a chance they will release it at the same time as Blizzcon. Why would you release a major expansion which is bound to have bugs/problems when half your staff are away.

So you can blame it on Blizzcon!

Beginning Wednesday, April 7 we will begin releasing class previews containing an overview of some of the changes currently being planned for each of the 10 World of Warcraft classes. The type of information you can expect from these posts are a list of the new spells from 80-85, the new passive mastery bonuses for all talent trees, a brief outline of some of the talent changes we're currently planning, and in some cases new low level spells for select classes.

These changes will by no means be comprehensive, and are subject to change between now and the launch of the expansion. It's also important to understand that some classes are currently further along in the development process than others, and as a result the amount of information will vary from class to class. Please do not let this frustrate you should your class be amongst those which are on the "lighter" side of things, as all classes will receive the same level of design attention before the expansion is released. Additionally we'll be providing more information for all classes, especially as we move into the beta phase.

Below is the schedule for each class:

* Shaman - April 7
* Priest - April 7
* Warlock - April 7

* Warrior - April 8
* Death Knight - April 8
* Rogue - April 8

* Hunter - April 9
* Druid - April 9
* Mage - April 9

* Paladin - April 16*

These posts are being coordinated internationally so they'll be posted at different times throughout the day and night on the given dates to give players around the world the ability to see posts made at a convenient time. This thread will be updated with links directly to each class preview as they're posted.

*The paladin is still deep in development. Instead of giving a preview that would be potentially less comprehensive than the other classes we made the decision to post it when it's ready, in order to properly honor the paladin class and those that play them. The wait isn't too long however as we're expecting to be able to post it on April 16.

Afraid so yes.

I hope that they give the rocket mount to anyone who already has the zebra thing, that would be cool :) Never going to happen though :(

wouldn't be nice if they could upgrade all flying mounts to owner max speed?
